wellcome to the department of Transportation and Geotechnical engineering

It is generally accepted that a certain minimum number of highways and other transport facilities is absolutely essential to allow and encorage economic and social development. On the other hand, a certain minimum degree of organisation and know-how is required for a sociaty to construct and maintain a transport infrastructure of a given level. For this reason, the highway and transportation engineering proffession has gained a world-wide prominence and is rapidly expanding in developing countries where transport typically accounts for 10 to 17% of the gross domestic products (GDP) and employs a large portion of the population. As Tanzania is going through increased economic activity arising from liberalisation of the national economy, the requirement for a solid transport infrastructure is even more important. If the local road industry is to meet the future challenges, it is clear that there will be a marked demand for professionals with higher academic qualifications.
